The Birds of St. Ives

It’s obvious that I’m an anglophile person. And deep down in my heart I’m fond of animals: fireflies cast their spell over me. I always used to think I loved birds, too. I’ve just come back from a research trip to Cornwall for a new novel . As a lucky coincidence I happened to follow in the footsteps of some famous male and female authors. My favourite place is St. Ives on the Northern coast, many of you will know the village from Rosamunde Pilcher novels and movies.

The setting is lovely, very romantic; five larger and smaller beaches within five minutes walking distance, and not only thousands of tourists but birds as well. Especially big and impressive sea gulls.

Before I reached St. Ives I visited Fowey, a small fishing village on the South coast. Daphne du Maurier lived there for many years in a tiny ferry house. Her son is still living there. That’s why you can’t go instead inside..

Reading at the Crime Cologne

8 December is the anniversary of the death of Friedrich Glauser (1896 – 1938). The “Syndikat”, the confederation of German speaking crime authors, took his name for their annual “Oscar”, the highest award German authors can gain. The authors from Cologne again took the opportunity to make up a Crime fiction Festival of four days: More than 30 local crime authors will present their work from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 December, among them some Glauser awarded bestselling authors. The place to visit is the event tent at the Heinrich-Böll-Place behind Museum Ludwig, overlooking the river Rhine. The authors will read in support of the “Oase” an organisation to support the homeless and others.
